In Memory of Chi-Chi
Chi-Chi left us on Sept. 6, 2000.
She was just over two years old.
Thank goodness she chose a convenient time to pass on.
I shudder to think what would have been the scenario had she died
when the family was away on a day trip.
Up to the end, she was being such a g o o d girl.
Chi-Chi was loved.
But it wasn't always easy to show her love.
From the beginning, her skin problems made her smell bad.
She had to be isolated from the other dogs.
She had to be kept outside the house.
Anybody who's a dog lover will understand how difficult it is
to love a dog from a distance.
Dogs are made to be patted, stroked, cuddled and hugged.
Yet, for the last few months of her life, Chi-Chi was covered
with maggot-infested wounds and tumors oozing puss.
Just the other day, I talked to someone who was using a tree
as an analogy to make a point.
She was expressing how a tree is like a human being.
A tree doesn't die, she offered.
(Well, they eventually do from rotting roots,
but that's another level of being and consciousness;
akin to achieving oneness with the universe or attaining Nirvana.)
She said, a tree experiences the seasons and
changes its leaves and branches with them.
A person doesn't die, she continued.
Only the consciousness has been altered.
Well, I take comfort from that Metaphysical theory.
I like to believe that Chi-Chi is still 'alive' in her consciousness.
Perhaps eagerly awaiting the next meaningful and purposeful
incarnation or even already experiencing one.
Her body may decompose but her personal consciousness goes on
and on and on progressively until it blends with the absolute
consciousness which some call the state of divinity.
I like to think that when my loved ones (humans and dogs) pass on,
I would be able to draw strength from this belief.
I like to believe that when it's my turn to go,
I too shall go on and on and on in progressive ways until I merge
with the divine.
We miss Chi-Chi inasmuch as anyone can miss a beloved pet.
She was very, very special in her own right.
Go, Chi-Chi, go …
Go where your body does not hinder your journey.
Death must be harder for those of us who are left behind.
We have to live with all the memories.
Yet, I look at the other dogs and see that Chi-Chi's death
has not affected any of them adversely.
What can I learn from my dogs?
They seem to understand life and death on a different level.
They seem to live in the moment.
They seem not to be concerned with the past or the future.

Hello astrologyTOMORROWtoday (att) Visitor,
Chi-Chi, Animals and Souls
Are you looking to have your "fortune told"?
Are you shopping around for Chinese "lucky objects" to own?
Perhaps you are interested to have your face or palms read or
maybe you think you need a psychic to help you find someone or something?
Well, here on astrologyTOMORROWtoday ™, we don't "tell" fortunes.
We don't market "lucky objects".
We don't "do" faces or palms.
We don't offer psychic "readings".
We offer insights and perspectives on the above subjects.
We also blah and blab about whatever's on our minds.
Well, almost.
For this edition, I want to talk about one of our dogs -- Chi-Chi --
and about animals in general.
Chi-Chi was the product of an accidental birth.
Her parents are siblings -- Harmony and Energy.
I understand that Chi-Chi's history of health problems is a result
of her parents being of the same litter.
Chi-Chi is the only surviving bitch of the litter of nine.
The others died soon after birth.
Chi-Chi was beset with skin problems from the start and it turned
her pink so I sometimes call her Pinky.
Chi-Chi has suffered for just over two years now.
That's how old she is.
Recently, we discovered that the tumors all over her cute self
are cancerous, therefore metastasizing.
Because she was so spunky and full of life, we decided to let her
live for as long as she wasn't in any obvious pain.
A couple of days ago, she couldn't finish dinner as usual.
We guessed that this might be the signal we were waiting for that
it was time to let her go.
The vet arrived the next day but we didn't go through with it
because Chi-Chi began to shed tears.
Chi-Chi "communicated" to us that she wasn't ready to go so we
took her to the clinic instead for another one of the many operations
she has had to endure to prolong her life.
At the clinic, she shed tears again.
The vet had never seen a dog cry and was moved to do whatever he could
for her.
He told us that although her body was ravaged by the disease,
she was indeed "strong" and with proper care and devotion,
she could continue to live a relatively pain free two or more years.
Putting Chi-Chi to sleep would be so easy.
Yet, our belief system is such that we think a soul should be ready
to go in order to have a better life in the next incarnation.
We want to give Chi-Chi the empowerment to say "when".
We know it can be any day from today.
Yes, we believe animals have souls just like we do.
We interact with them on a soul-to-soul level.
For this reason, we urge humans to treat animals with the dignity
that any individual entity deserves.
We urge you to acknowledge that animals have a right to this
planetary real estate just as we think or feel we do.
We urge that if you cannot show kindness to animals,
then please refrain from unnecessarily hurting them.
We thank you for any act of kindness you might shower on these creatures,
dogs in particular.
A couple of months ago, a friend spoke about his wanting to raise
US One Million Dollars from his business ventures to create a
"One Stop Humanitarian Center".
He said he wanted it all to be "his" money and not "other people's" money.
I told him I didn't think that we should wait till we have a Million
US Dollars to contribute to our society.
I told him that he should stop thinking and talking about "humanitarian"
work and instead, he should put a face and a name to this "work".
I believe that love is a verb.
I believe that we should walk our talk.
I believe that we can each do what we can while we can.
